We here at Eight2Seven Boutique starting the year off in a great way. We had the opportunity to do a Q&A with the talented Amina Buddafly in regards to her new book “The Other Woman”. On Monday January 9th at BKLYN Commons (495 Flatbush Avenue) we were invited to Amina meet, greet & listen intimate event. From the beginning to the end the vibe and experience was exceptional. Amina started by serenading the crowd with her beautiful vocals, while playing an acoustic piano. Following schedule fans were able to meet and greet Amina personally. Everyone who purchased a book was able to take a photo with her and get their copy of the book signed. Not only Amina was promoting her book, she was still in full Mommy mode with her children not too far from her. Towards the ending, we were able to chit chat and ask a couple of questions.
Nastassia- For the book, why did you use Amina Pankey and not Amina Buddafly?
Amina- Buddafly is my artist name for my music. For the book, I wanted to use my real name because it’s about me before the music before everything.
N- How did you chose the name of your book?
A- Ummm…omg… to be honest I sat down with someone she suggested it, at 1st I was like well that’s obvious. If I am talking about the story that is on tv it’s kind of like who the other women would be, but then I thought about it as I was writing I had like more and more situations, it actually makes sense the title. People kinda get it misunderstood because they think the other women is one woman. But I am talking about different scenarios were there was another woman. Whether it was myself sometimes or another woman when I was with a man, it’s a bunch of different scenarios which applied and I started loving the title and I decided to use it.
N- What do you want your readers to understand from reading this book?
A- I want readers to understand me a little bit more. I felt misunderstood and to understand who I am and why I made the choices that I made & not to judge so quick, because when you read the whole thing if you don’t like me & still don’t like me it’s ok but at least you have a better understanding of why I did what I did and who I am and if you still don’t like me it’s ok.
N- Use one word to describe yourself & why?
A- Real. I always keep it real and that’s what the book is about, I don’t like liars and lies. Everything I tell in the book is the truth. In general I am always myself, I don’t put up a front I don’t do things for media purposes or public perception. I just like to always be honest if it’s bad or good for me whatever, I just like real people.
N- Do you have any future projects coming up?
A- Yes, the book is 1st then my new EP has 5 songs acoustic which is only piano. It comes out later this month & than probably some spot dates. I don’t really have a tour planned. I am hit major cities for the book, along with the book signing I will be performing in those cities too.
It was awesome hearing & seeing a different side of Amina compare to the VH1 Love & Hip Hop “stories”. We had the chance to see her perform, see her interact with her children & explain her side. We were able to see her in a different light. If you have not had the chance to read her book yet, you can find it at www.13thandjoan.com/aminabuddafly. If you’re looking for a dope venue, BKLYN Commons is the place. BKLYN Commons is a co-work space and fabulous event space for all kinds of parties.
